The European Policy Centre is pleased to invite you to this Policy Dialogue.

Is European industry at risk of falling behind? In this fast-changing world, European companies  are having to adapt to a number of fundamental challenges, including increasing global competition and rapid technological change, while at the same time ensuring that EU policy objectives on issues such as climate change and strategic autonomy are delivered. Member states are reacting to these developments as demonstrated by the recently published German national industrial strategy, but there is also a need for a comprehensive and ambitious strategy at EU level as proposed by European Commissioner for Competition Margrethe Vestager in the ‘industrial strategy for all of Europe’. The questions to be answered are, not only about how the EU can foster industrial productivity, innovation and competitiveness, but also how the EU plans to mitigate the danger of fragmentation between and within member states, while safeguarding, but modernising, inter alia, trade policy and the Single Market framework, including competition policy.

The EPC will carry these discussions forward at this high-level Policy Dialogue. Peter Altmaier Germany’s Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy and Margrethe Vestager, European Commissioner for Competition, will present and discuss their views on a future-oriented European industrial policy, chaired by EPC Director of Studies Janis A. Emmanouilidis.
