Digitalisation and disruptive technologies are rewriting the rules of our economy and changing the nature of work. According to a recent study, by 2030, workers will spend 92% more time on tasks involving advanced technologies and 65% more on activities requiring basic digital skills. However, workers are not prepared for this major change with wide inequalities in terms of access to learning these new skills. Only 74% of people from poor families have internet access in Europe, with the percentage as low as 24% in Bulgaria.

Against this background, this Policy Dialogue will provide examples of grassroots initiatives that aim to better prepare young people for tomorrow’s jobs through innovative digital skills training. Speakers will discuss how digital technologies can become a driver for the integration of young people into the labour market, especially the most vulnerable. They will also identify the factors for successful training and social programmes, while reflecting on how the experience of local organisations can inform and contribute to action at European Union level.
