This Policy Dialogue discussed the transformative potential of an EU single market that is enabled by digital technology. The European Commission will be tabling proposals for a digital strategy on 6 May. Andrus Ansip, European Commission Vice-President for the Digital Single Market, indicated that key issues covered by the strategy are likely to include geoblocking, digital infrastructure, and the digital transformation of industry and the public sector. Helping start-ups so that they can scale up fast and expand beyond national borders will be an important part of the strategy as well. Digital platforms, the sharing economy and jobs and training were among an enormous range of issues that were discussed. Fabian Zuleeg, Chief Executive and Chief Economist, European Policy Centre, asked for an ambitious package tying together the many different issues to realise the EU’s digital potential.
