EVENT
Wednesday, 19 April 2017

The Brexit negotiations are starting at a time of deep transformation for the energy systems of both the UK and the EU. As the energy transition goes on, increased interconnectivity within the framework of the internal market for energy has contributed to a rising interdependence that will not stop under any Brexit scenario. However, from market access to renewables and emission policies, a wide range of policy areas are expected to come under considerable uncertainty in the highly political negotiation process. This Policy Dialogue explored the impact of Brexit on energy and climate policy in the UK and the EU, featuring a panel of speakers that attempted to identify the main policy challenges and shed some light on possible future options for energy and climate relations between both sides of the Channel.

Speakers included: Marco Giuli, Policy Analyst, European Policy Centre, Leigh Hancher, Professor of Law, University of Tilburg and European University Institute, Scott Flavell, Head of the UK Energy Practice for Sia Partners, Richard Tol, Professor of Economics of Climate Change, University of Sussex,Jonathan Gaventa, Director of E3G, Stefan Dörig, Counsellor for Policy on Energy, Mission of Switzerland to the European Union
