Breakfast Policy Briefing
Ensuring fair competition, locally and globally - The role of EU competition policy

EVENT
Tuesday, 26 September 2017

Competition enforcement and state aid policy are core elements of the architecture of the EU internal market. The Commission traditionally views these tools as an important means to preserve a competitive and open environment for the EU internal market. Yet, in an ever more interconnected global economy, the same considerations are relevant on a global scale. How can the EU contribute to an environment where competition fosters innovation while, at the same time, promoting a fair international playing field, for example, when it comes to innovation, open markets, taxation and subsidies? Margrethe Vestager, European Commissioner for Competition, addressed these and other issues at this breakfast briefing, moderated by EPC Chief Executive Fabian Zuleeg.
