The knowledge of Gibraltar among European citizens and the EU institutions is not what it should be. This small country is the only self-governing overseas territory in the EU, with 30.000 inhabitants who are directly represented in the EU Parliament. Despite its small size, Gibraltar has been at the centre of sovereignty disputes between Spain and the UK, which is having its effect on the country’s position within in the EU. Dr Joseph Garcia, Deputy Chief Minister of Gibraltar, spoke at this Policy Briefing about the current state of the country and its future perspectives in the EU.
