Children and young people are increasingly under threat from jihadist radical groups who seek to promote their extremist ideologies. Schools are a particular vulnerable place where these kind of ideas can spread very easily. That is why the resilience of young people needs to be strengthened, and schools should receive the necessary tools and support to deal with this ugly phenomena. In partnership with the European Foundation for Democracy (EFD), this EPC Policy Dialogue assessed the challenges and best practices of countering jihadist radicalisation in schools. Amanda Paul, Senior Policy Analyst, European Policy Centre, welcomed a distinguished panel including; Peter Neumann, Special Representative on the fight against radicalisation, Austrian Chairmanship of the OSCE 2017, Professor of Security Studies, Department of War Studies, King’s College London; Rodrigo Ballester, Member of Cabinet of European Commissioner for Education, Culture, Youth and Sport; Karin Heremans, Principal, Royal Athenaeum School, Antwerp, Co-Chair of the Radicalisation Awareness Network (RAN) Education Working Group; and Demir Murat Seyrek, Senior Policy Advisor, European Foundation for Democracy (EFD).
