As the initial shock at the unprecedented number of refugees and migrants arriving in the EU wears off and short-term solutions for their reception and accommodation are found, the need to develop long-term strategies for integration is becoming increasingly apparent. However, the issue of integration is a complex one covering a wide range of domains, from language and civic learning requirements in many member states, to the sensitive issue of identity. This Policy Dialogue explored and discussed these different issues and their development at EU and national level. Yves Pascouau opened the Dialogue. Bruce Stokes then presented the results of a survey carried out by the Pew Research Centre in 10 European states and in the United States, relating to immigrants, refugees, national identity, and the importance of language, tradition and religion. A panel debate and question and answer session followed the presentation.
