EVENT
Wednesday, 22 March 2017

Exactly one year after the Brussels attacks of 22 March 2016, the European Policy Centre (EPC), The European Foundation for Democracy (EFD) and the Counter Extremism Project presented the book ‘The challenge of jihadist radicalisation in Europe and beyond’, the culmination of a year-long joint research project. It includes contributions from a number of well-established experts who looked at the issue from many different angles, including radicalisation in schools, universities and mosques, geostrategic aspects, the nature of online extremist narratives, the nexus between the extreme right and jihadist radicalisation, and examples of effective countering violent extremism (CVE) measures. At this book launch, a panel including Herman Van Rompuy, President of the European Policy Centre and President Emeritus of the European Council, Julian King, Commissioner for the Security Union, Gilles de Kerchove, EU Counter-Terrorism Coordinator, and Jan Jambon, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Security and the Interior of the Kingdom of Belgium talked about the findings of the book and how the fight against radicalisation was unfolding at EU and member state level.

Speakers also included: Roberta Bonazzi, Founder and President, European Foundation for Democracy, Alexander Ritzmann, Executive Director, European Foundation for Democracy and Co-Chairman, Communication and Narratives Working Group, Radicalisation Awareness Network.
