Six months have passed since the 2012 European Year of Active Ageing and Solidarity amongst the Generations put the issue of inclusion of older workers high on the political agenda. As Europe's population is ageing and its workforce shrinking, innovative solutions must be found in order to enable older workers to remain economically active for longer. Although progress has been made, the path towards more successful labour market integration is still rocky for many older workers across Europe and, in some member states, barriers and disincentives are widely present, ultimately hampering older workers' employment prospects.
This workshop looked into why some member states are more successful than others in integrating older workers in the labour market, and the main difficulties EU countries face when trying to implement reforms. Furthermore, the practical implementation of the project's recommendations were discussed in order to analyse how they can prove useful for the less successful countries.
