In view of the ongoing reflection about the future of Europe, as well as discussions on the next Multiannual Financial Framework, it is important to identify priority actions for the EU in making European health systems more efficient, sustainable, and inclusive. This CHES Policy Dialogue assessed the role of EU governance and the EU budget in health, as well as what additional instruments the EU needs to maximise its impact. The discussion drew on a new EPC paper that looks at how the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) on health could serve as a possible framework for future EU action. The dialogue also took stock of the current impact of EU actions on health policies and reflected on how its added value could be strengthened in the future.
Speakers included: Hans Martens, Chair of CHES and Senior Advisor at the European Policy Centre (EPC), Sylvain Giraud, Head of Unit at the European Commission’s DG for Health and Food Safety, Guy Dargent, Senior Scientific Project Officer, Health Unit at Consumers, Health, Agriculture and Food Executive Agency (CHAFEA), Nina Renshaw, Secretary General of the European Public Health Alliance, Caroline Costongs, Managing Director of EuroHealthNet
