The Aviation Strategy for Europe – Clear skies ahead?

EVENT
Monday, 30 May 2016

The aviation sector currently accounts for €110 billion of the EU’s GDP, directly employs between 1.4 million and 2 million people and has significant spill-over effects on other economic activities such as tourism. The European Commission’s long-awaited new Aviation Strategy for Europe, presented last December, aims to boost this vitally important sector by increasing its competitiveness, tackling the fragmentation of European airspace through the “Single European Sky” and maintaining high EU standards for safety, security and passenger rights. The comprehensive strategy also aims to boost innovation and contribute towards a forward-looking climate change policy. This dialogue sought to address the main elements of the strategy, identify opportunities and gaps and encourage a debate on the extent to which the strategy can effectively achieve its economic, social, security and environmental objectives.
