Despite the doom-mongers, the euro has survived the financial crisis and if anything, it is currently too strong, according to some assessments at the latest of the annual EPC-hosted analysis of the EU’s economic prospects. An expert panel at the Policy Dialogue agreed that there were signs of at least a subdued recovery, and concerns being voiced by some a year or two ago about a possible eurozone disintegration had disappeared. On the other hand, there was a significant slowdown in world trade growth, and unemployment remained worryingly high. The two big concerns now were economic stagnation and political complacency.
