The crisis in Ukraine has shown that the EU is heavily dependent on gas supplies from Russia. The recent gas deal between Russia and Ukraine, brokered by the EU, has defused some of the most urgent issues and will ensure gas supplies for the upcoming winter. But now that winter really is coming – and in some European countries has already arrived – the question still remains if the EU is sufficiently prepared for possible gas disruptions. At this Policy Dialogue, the panel discussed the vulnerability of Europe’s energy security, the results of the European Commission’s stress test, the progress made since the 2009 energy crisis and what needs to be done in the medium- and long term to make the EU less energy dependent.
