Since 2017 the EPC has been heavily engaged in the debate over European industrial policy. Early work informed the European Commission’s March 2020 'New Industrial Strategy for Europe', which set out to break down silos and reach across many different policy areas, including sustainability, trade, innovation and new technologies, the Single Market and fair industrial transitions.
The consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic are forcing us to rethink how an EU industrial strategy can support economic recovery in Europe while still delivering the green and digital transitions. At the same time, the increasingly tense geopolitical environment is straining the EU’s external dependencies and supply chains.
The EPC will continue to follow and analyse these developments closely and put forward concrete recommendations on how to improve the EU's industrial strategy and its implementation.
