In collaboration with the Bertelsmann Stiftung, the EPC is currently working on a study mapping and evaluating the toolkit of citizens’ participation instruments at the EU level. The study will include a comprehensive overview and analysis of instruments such as the European Citizens’ Initiative, European Commission public consultations, Citizens’ Dialogues, and the European elections.
By evaluating each instrument’s strengths and weaknesses according to their own stated objectives and a set of universal criteria, the study will aim to map the strengths and weaknesses both of individual instruments and of the participatory system as a whole. By determining where the gaps in the EU’s participatory system lie, it will open the way to suggesting possible means of improvement.
The study will be published in Spring 2020.
