This EPC Update will discuss how recent international developments might impact EUrope’s economic and political model, and how the EU can react to a world turned upside down. The first months of Trump 2.0 have led to a clear departure from the norms that have traditionally governed geo-political and geo-economic relations. President Trump’s “America First” doctrine, the withdrawal of active US support for Ukraine, the growing alignment with Putin’s Russia, or the imposition of tariffs threaten the Union’s prosperity, sustainability, security and democracy.

So, how will the US tariffs affect Europe’s economy and competitiveness and how should the EU27 respond? Can they deal with the potential consequences of Trump’s ‘peace negotiations’ with Ukraine and Russia? Will they speed up Ukraine’s potential accession to the EU or will some governments block progress and, if so, how should the EU institutions and other member states react? Would they be forced to deepen their cooperation with Kyiv outside the EU framework?

Participation is open to EPC members only, the media and EU officials.
