Senior Editor/ Editor








The European Policy Centre (EPC) is looking for a hands-on editor to manage the production of high-quality written materials at the EPC. The main responsibilities will be the planning, editing, proofreading, and overall management of the think tank’s research papers. The position also includes overseeing quality control and editing of other written deliverables such as event invitations and reports.  

The Editor will be part of the Communications and Events team and report directly to the Communications and Events Manager. 

Requirements:

  • University degree in communication, language/literature (English), journalism or related field.  

  • 5+ years for the senior position, or 3-5 years for the editor, of proven experience in editing and proofreading, and in managing publications.  

  • Proven knowledge and experience of managing budgets and competing priorities. 

  • Native English speaker or native level competence.

  • Able to plan ahead, prioritise and meet deadlines. 

  • Working knowledge of EU institutions, procedures and relevant policy areas. 

  • Advanced computer skills, including graphic design and desktop publishing. 

  • Dynamic, flexible, reliable, pro-active, creative, results-oriented person. 

  • Team player who is also able to work independently.  


Main responsibilities:

  • Edit and proofread all EPC publications in line with the house style focusing on consistency in grammar and format.  

  • Recommend substantive editorial changes as needed in close cooperation/agreement with the Communications and Events Manger and the authors. 

  • Cross-check citations and examine and harmonise references. 

  • Upon request, write, draft and/or edit written materials including event reports, annual report, newsletters, press releases, profiles, marketing/advertising materials, including for the website. 

  • Together with the Communications and Events Manager, oversee the publication schedule, coordinating multiple production and print deadlines. 

  • Together with the Communications and Events Manager, identify high-profile publications and ensure that their key messages reflect the EPC’s strategic priorities. 

  • Liaise with external contractors and partners on the production of publications. 

  • Coordinate post-production activities, such as mailing, copyright registration, and permissions activities. 

  • Ensure contractors and subscriptions related to the role are within budget and manage invoices.  

  • Keep track of publishing data to gain insight into readership. 

  • Assist the Communications and Events Manager in the implementation and assessment of the EPC Communication Strategy.  


Interviews will take place on a rolling basis up to the closing date and in the last week of October. Interviewees will be requested to conduct an editing test as a part of the interview process.  

This position is offered on a self-employed consultancy basis.
